Few people would argue about the health benefits of bicycling. While the percentage of the population cycling to work is steadily increasing, the inconvenience regarding bulky helmets continues to plague most bikers. Although a must when it comes to road safety, the difficulty in carrying as well as storing a regular bicycle helmet prompts many to intentionally leave it behind. Well, not anymore. Spanish brand, Closca, has designed an incredibly innovative foldable helmet that ensures hassle-free biking, without comprising on safety.
Winner of the 2015 Red Dot Design Award, the new Fuga helmet features three concentric circular shells, that are capable of collapsing onto each other. The helmet’s extremely portable and ergonomic design, coupled with its compact size, makes it the perfect solution for those commuting to work by bike. Its size decreases by 50-percent when folded completely, thus allowing the user to neatly pack the helmet into a backpack or even a purse. The company’s website states:
Wearing a helmet when riding to work through town and not looking like a “Tour-de-France” refugee became our opportunity to create a new product that would transform this safety element into a fashion accessory.
Built using a combination of polycarbonate and polystyrene, the Fuga helmet meets all American, European and Asian safety standards. It contains a strengthened fiberglass interior that provides optimal level of impact absorption. Furthermore, it features a set of strategically-placed air vents that protects the user from sunstroke, by keeping his/her head cool.
Priced at $79 (€72), the Closca Fuga helmet is available in two colors (black and white) and three different sizes (small, medium and large). Interested buyers can pre-order the product, with shipping slated for the coming spring.
