The new X Stand promises reduced eye strain, neck and back pain, while working on your computer

X Stand Promises Reduced Eye Strain And Back Pain While Working-9

Here at HEXAPOLIS, we have harped quite a bit about the ill effects that prolonged sitting and bad posture have on our health. To help prevent eye strain, back and neck pain among those who spend most of their time in front of computers, California-based innovator Dale Rorabaugh has come up with the perfect solution: the ingeniously-shaped X Stand. An updated version of last year’s 3 in 1 Stand Up Stand in a Tube, the adjustable desk enhances the user’s concentration and productivity, while also eliminating discomfort arising from bad sitting, standing or typing postures.

Today, lack of sufficient physical activity, coupled with extended periods of sitting, has made us more susceptible to a variety of diseases, including obesity, diabetes, heart-related issues and even cancer. This is corroborated by several scientific studies, one of which talks about how prolonged sitting raises one’s risk of developing colon cancer by a startling 8-percent. Crouching towards your computer or laptop, in turn, makes you more fatigued, often causing serious eye strain. The new all-in-one X Stand creates a more comfortable working environment, while at the same time boosting energy and concentration levels.

The stand can be easily adjusted for sitting, standing and typing, and contains special slots for laptops, cellphones and tablets. What is more, it helps reduce clutter, by neatly organizing all your gadgets and even wires. As its name suggests, the stand’s X shape is optimized for all three postures, allowing users to continue working for longer stretches of time without any discomfort. The incredibly versatile stand is built using high-tensile fiberglass and strengthened aluminium, and is actually capable of bearing the weight of three huge concrete blocks. Speaking about his creation, the designer said:

As a practicing optometrist, I have dealt with Computer Vision Syndrome patient problems over the years. The X STAND is the culmination of my history of dealing with vision problems and computers. It’s not just the proper eye viewing angles but posture, as well. The X STAND is designed to alleviate these problems related to sitting and standing for long periods of time performing tedious routines.

The X Stand can be customized in a variety of ways, and is adjustable to fit up to 98-percent of gadgets currently available in the market, including the new 18″ Samsung Galaxy View and Apple iPad Pro tablet. Furthermore, it comes equipped with a special magnetic mobile phone holder as well as a pair of USB ports. It positions the computer, laptop or tablet such that it creates optimal viewing and typing angles. Its lightweight and ergonomic design makes it remarkably flexible and portable, allowing easy transportation inside a purse, briefcase or even a backpack.

The user can also choose to install an LED light bulb on the stand’s underside. Lasting a minimum of 40,000 hours, the LEDs help illuminate the keyboard and work station, and is powered with the help of a wall adapter. The product is currently up for crowdfunding at Kickstarter, with prices starting from $59.
