YouTuber Aryok Pineral uploads video of Mario in Unreal Engine 4!

Mario in Unreal Engine-1

Recently, we talked about a valiant attempt, made by YouTuber LowSpecGamer, to run Witcher 3 on a super-low spec system. And unsurprisingly, the RPG, which is lauded for its good graphics, looked more like a PS2 game, when played via the unenviable configuration. However, this time around, a fellow YouTube user, Aryok Pineral, has uploaded an interesting video that shows Mario traversing a series of highly-detailed environments created using Epic’s Unreal Engine 4.

Gone is the familiar, and somewhat whimsical, landscape of the Mushroom Kingdom. In the footage, the affable Italian plumber can be seen running around office buildings, museums and even kitchenettes. What is more, the incredibly sharp graphics will definitely startle even the most avid fans. A skilled animator, Pineral is also known for last year’s HD-like remake of Super Mario 64, using the Blender Game Engine (BGE). He says, in the present video:

All the environment assets were taken from the Unreal marketplace, all the character actions were scripted using blueprints only, all animations were re-created from scratch as well as the PBR ready textures.

However, given Nintendo’s famously hostile attitude towards fan-projects of any kind, it might not be long before the video is completely taken down.
