As part of an unusual marketing stunt, US-based robotics company, Megabots Inc., seems to have challenged its Japanese competitor, Suidobashi Heavy Industry, to the duel of a lifetime. If it does indeed happen, the company’s 15-feet-tall, 12000-pound Mark II will be fighting against its opponent’s equally-formidable Kuratas giant robot.
Despite an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign, last year, Megabots recently unveiled Mark II, a colossal 12,000-pound manned robot, fitted with arms that can shoot custom-built, 3-pound paintballs. Kuratas, on the other hand , has been around since 2012. Named after its creator, Kogoro Kurata, the 13-feet-tall human-operated robotweighs a total of 10,000 pounds. Additionally it features a variety of weapon systems, including a pair of powerful “smile-activated” gatling guns for arms. Gui Cavalcanti, the co-founder of Megabots, has challenged Suidobashi to a battle of its robots, via a YouTube video, which said:
SUIDOBASHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES! MegaBots, Inc. challenges you to a duel! You have a giant robot, we have a giant robot – we have a duty to the science fiction lovers of this world to fight them to the death… Prepare yourselves, and name the battlefield. In one year, we fight.
We are still awaiting Suidobashi’s response to the invitation.
