If you’ve ever wanted to live in the middle of a desert, you might just be in luck! Located at one end of the Mojave Desert, in the United States, the spectacular Volcano House is currently up for grabs for a modest sum of $650,000. As its name suggests, this one-of-a-kind dwelling sits atop a 150-feet cinder cone, surrounded by long stretches of the unspoiled desert landscape.
Previously owned by well-known TV personality and host of California’s Gold, Huell Howser, the ingeniously-designed structure looks like a UFO, perched on a lunar mound. Measuring up to 2,206-square-feet in area, it houses two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a centrally-situated stone fireplace. The interior features an open floor plan, gently-curved ceilings, beautiful tile floors and a luxurious mid-century conversation pit.
Central to the building’s design are massive wrap-around windows, and deck, that offer breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding rugged terrain. Transparent sliding glass doors allow access to the inside of the dwelling. At the bottom of the hill lies a 2-story guesthouse, sort of like a caretaker’s residence, complete with a garage and a living area. The 60-acre property includes a small lake, which somewhat resembles an oasis in the midst of a desert.
Constructed in the 1960s by architect Harold J. Bissner Jr., the Volcano House is currently up for sale. Interested buyers can click here.
