When it comes to medieval architectural marvels, few are as astoundingly grand as the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica. Now thanks to the designers at Italy-based Studio AMeBE, you can bring this stunning Renaissance masterpiece to your living room, in the form of a breathtakingly ornate lamp.
For their latest project, the duo – Alessandra Mantovani and Eleonora Barbareschi – behind Studio AMeBE has recreated Vatican City’s iconic structure in the shape of a magnificent hand-painted lamp. Built after St. Peter’s Basilica’s famous dome, the hanging light fixture features an unusual weathered exterior that resembles the original church.
Relying on a hyperrealistic approach, the developers hand-colored both the lamp’s exterior and interior, so as to create a striking likeness. On the inside, the lamp is lined with a series of spectacularly detailed religious scenes. According to the designers, when viewed from certain angles, the miniaturized creation could fool the observer.
As the team points out, the lamp is part of a limited edition, with only 15 of these actually available for purchase. It was recently unveiled at the Milan Design Week.
