“Because every country is the best at something”. That is the idea behind the International Number Ones, a one-of-a-kind world map that lists the one thing each nation around the globe is most famous for. Created by designer David McCandless of Information is Beautiful, the map provides a comprehensive view of what each of the 196 countries in the world is best at.
McCandless, however, is quick to point out that the term “best” is not always a positive thing, and could refer to issues and problems that certain nations are infamous for. For instance, Netherlands is known to have the best coffee drinkers, while the United States is unrivaled in spam mails. Nigeria is home to the best scrabble players in the entire world, whereas China is a front-runner when it comes to jailed journalists. Spain famously has the highest LGBT tolerance and Ireland boasts the most ideal working conditions.
